Hey there, movie lovers! You know what’s exciting? When a beloved franchise delivers something fresh and action-packed. That’s exactly what’s happening with this summer’s Hobbs & Shaw, the very first spinoff in the Fast & Furious universe. Instead of the usual “Steven Spielberg Presents,” we’re getting “Fast & Furious Presents” – and trust me, this is one ride you don’t want to miss.
Why Fast & Furious Has Taken the World by Storm
Let’s take a moment to appreciate just how massive the Fast & Furious franchise has become. It all started back in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, which had a modest $38 million budget. Fast forward to 2017, and we’re talking about The Fate of the Furious, the eighth installment, with a staggering $250 million budget. And here’s the kicker: the entire series has grossed an incredible $5.1 billion worldwide. That’s right, folks, billions with a “B.”
Now, with the ninth and tenth films set for release in the coming years, the franchise is showing no signs of slowing down. But before we get to those, we’ve got Hobbs & Shaw, a movie that’s sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. So, what are you waiting for? What to Expect from Hobbs & Shaw
Set two years after the events of The Fate of the Furious, Hobbs & Shaw brings together two of the franchise’s most iconic characters: Dwayne Johnson’s federal agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw. These two, who started as rivals, now have to team up to take down a dangerous international terrorist named Brixton, played by the always-impressive Idris Elba. If the trailer is any indication, Brixton isn’t your average villain. He’s been genetically enhanced to be bulletproof and superhumanly strong, taking the action to superhero-level proportions. Get ready for some seriously over-the-top stunts and jaw-dropping fight scenes!
Meet the Rest of the Cast
This spinoff is packed with talent, folks. Vanessa Kirby joins the cast as Hattie Shaw, Deckard’s sister and a member of MI6 (yes, the same agency that employs James Bond – cool, right?). Roman Reigns plays Luke Hobbs’ brother, adding even more muscle to the team. And let’s not forget Helen Mirren, reprising her role as Shaw’s mother, Magdalene. To round out the cast, we’ve got Eiza González as the enigmatic Madam X. With a script penned by Chris Morgan, who’s written five films in the series, and direction by David Leitch, known for his work on John Wick and Deadpool 2, this movie is in good hands.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw hits theaters on August 2, 2019. Mark your calendars because this is one film you won’t want to miss. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the series or new to the world of Fast & Furious, this spinoff promises to deliver everything you love about the franchise – and then some.
