It Runs In The Family: Drew Barrymore's Thoughts On Her Daughters Following In Her Acting Footsteps

Let’s talk about family legacies for a moment. Drew Barrymore, the Hollywood icon whose career has spanned decades, recently opened up about whether or her daughters might follow in her footsteps. And honestly, it sounds like she’s all for it—when the timing’s right, of course.

Her Kids Have That Barrymore Spark

In a recent chat with Us Weekly, Drew, now 47, shared how her daughters Olive, 6, and Frankie, 4, are already showing signs of thespian talent. "They’re very theatrical," she said. "There’s definitely a strong Barrymore gene running through both of them. But beyond that, they’re funny, cool, adventurous, and they absolutely love coming to set. It’s like they were born for it!"

    Supportive But Protective

When Drew welcomed Olive and Frankie with her ex-husband, Will Kopelman, she initially thought she’d want to shield them from the acting world altogether. "When they were born, I was like, ‘Oh no, I don’t want you to be actresses,’” she admitted. “But what I realized is that my main concern isn’t about acting—it’s about childhood. If they were to get into acting at the right age, I’d be their biggest supporter. I’d fight tooth and nail for them. But I just want them to experience a normal childhood first."

Drew continued, “Now I feel like, ‘If you want to dive into theater in high school or pursue it as a career later, I’m all in. I’m your fiercest cheerleader.’ It’s all about balance, you know?”

While Drew’s daughters may have acting in their blood, they’re also carving out their own unique interests. “Frankie’s really into Legos right now, which I thought was a boy thing until I saw how talented she is with them,” Drew told People. “Meanwhile, Olive’s become a master with Magna-Tiles. They’re both incredible builders, and honestly, it’s so cool to watch them explore their passions outside of acting.”

Before I left for Asia, I showed Olive where on the globe I was going. And now, at this moment, I came across an article by the great @anthonybourdain LINK IN BIO TO READ because it really moved me. It’s funny how we all arrange our travel. I came here for work, but on the off hours, I live for getting “local” and getting to know what a place is really like without the protection of the familiar. A Mom’s Pride

And let’s not forget—Drew’s kids are huge fans of her work. “They absolutely adore movies like Ever After and 50 First Dates. It’s funny because whenever someone comes over and one of my films is playing, I feel compelled to explain, ‘I promise, I’m not that egotistical,’” Drew joked during a Good Morning America interview with Robin Roberts.

“But seriously, they call these ‘mom movies,’ and they genuinely enjoy watching them. It makes me so proud of who I am and everything I’ve accomplished,” she added.
