Hey there, friends! Let me paint you a picture: Pippa Middleton, the mom of one and sister to Kate Middleton, is finally spilling the beans about life at home. Six months ago, Pippa welcomed her son, Arthur Matthews, into the world with her husband, James Matthews. And guess what? This little guy is already making waves—literally. Pippa recently revealed that Arthur is learning how to swim and seems to be a natural in the water.
A Splashy Start to Life
Pippa shared some heartwarming insights into her parenting journey in Waitrose Kitchen magazine, as reported by an Instagram fan page called MiddletonMaven. She said, “Starting my son Arthur swimming at just four months old has given him so much confidence and enjoyment in the water. Now that Arthur is six months old, swimming has become one of our favorite activities.” Isn’t that adorable? It’s like baby Arthur already knows how to do the butterfly stroke—or maybe he’s working on it!
But here’s the kicker: Pippa went on to explain how swimming isn’t just fun—it’s also beneficial for Arthur’s well-being. “The exercise helps guarantee sound daytime sleeps, and the movement has improved his digestion,” she added. Sounds like this little champ is getting a head start on both swimming and healthy habits!

Swimming Lessons: Not Just for Babies
Now, let’s rewind for a moment. Pippa welcomed Arthur just a few months after her sister, Kate, gave birth to her third royal baby, Prince Louis, back in April 2018. While Kate hasn’t mentioned whether Louis is diving into the world of swimming yet, she might want to take a cue from Pippa’s interview with fitness expert Professor Greg Whyte in the magazine.
Professor Whyte had this to say: “Children can be taught to swim at any age. Whether you’re swimming in water that’s been disinfected by chlorine or a salt-based method, there’s really no difference. However, open-water swimming isn’t recommended for little ones because it could carry an increased risk of infection.” So, while baby Arthur is splashing around safely, maybe Louis should stick to indoor pools for now.
Prince Louis Finds His Feet
On the other hand, Prince Louis might not be a swimmer just yet, but he’s definitely finding his groove in other ways. According to Kate, Louis has become quite the little walker. During a visit to the Henry Fawcett Children’s Centre on March 12, 2019, Kate gushed to some moms about her son’s newfound mobility. She said, “Louis just wants to pull himself up all the time. He’s got these little walkers and is bombing around in them!”
