When Luke Perry tragically passed away on March 4, tributes poured in from all corners of the entertainment world. While his Riverdale costar Mark Consuelos didn’t immediately share his thoughts publicly, that doesn’t mean Luke didn’t leave a lasting impression on him. In fact, Mark opened up about the late actor in a candid interview, offering a glimpse into the man behind the iconic roles.
Mark Consuelos Reflects on Luke Perry
Speaking with Esquire, Mark Consuelos, 48, revealed that every positive thing you’ve ever heard about Luke Perry is absolutely true. “That’s who he was,” Mark said, his voice filled with admiration. “He was an incredibly generous, kind person. You can’t fake that kind of authenticity. Luke was one of the truly good ones.”
Mark also explained why he didn’t rush to express his grief publicly after Luke’s sudden passing. “I commiserated with my Riverdale castmates. We spent time together, shared meals, and processed it as a family,” he shared. “I reached out to Luke’s family and said everything I needed to say. For me, it wasn’t about making a public statement—it was about honoring Luke in the way he deserved. Grieving in the public eye can sometimes shift the focus, and I didn’t want it to be about me. It was always about Luke.”

Meeting Luke Before Riverdale
Mark met Luke even before they began working together on the hit teen drama. Although they only knew each other for a short time, Mark quickly noticed Luke’s generous spirit. “Luke had this incredible ability to make everyone around him feel valued and appreciated,” Mark recalled. “He was the kind of guy who would go out of his way to help someone, no matter how big or small the favor was.”

Luke’s Legacy of Stories
Mark fondly remembers the way Luke talked about his life. “One thing about Luke that always struck me was how he viewed his life as a collection of chapters,” Kelly Ripa’s husband said. “He had so many incredible stories to tell, and even when things weren’t going well, he could find the humor and wit in those situations. Luke had this rare ability to see the beauty in everything. Even during tough times, he managed to find the silver lining.”
“I only knew Luke for a short time, but he left such a profound impact on me—and everyone who met him,” Mark continued. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have been a small part of his journey. Maybe I was just a page or two in one of his chapters, but I’m grateful for the time we had together.”

Luke’s final appearance on the CW show aired on April 24, nearly two months after his untimely passing due to a massive stroke at the age of 52. His legacy continues to live on through the memories of friends, family, and fans alike.
As Mark Consuelos put it, “We’re so lucky that Luke’s spirit remains alive in the hearts of those who knew him. He truly was one of a kind.”
