De Niro’s Unfiltered Thoughts on Parenting

Let’s talk honesty! Robert De Niro, one of Hollywood’s most iconic actors, is not shy about sharing the ups and downs of raising six kids. At 75 years old, this legendary actor is as candid as ever about the challenges and joys of parenthood. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, during the Tribeca Film Festival’s opening night premiere of The Apollo, De Niro opened up about the realities of raising a large family.

“I love my children, just being with them,” De Niro told the publication. But he didn’t stop there. He went on to say, “It’s not easy. Sometimes it’s fun and you love your kids, and sometimes you want to pull your hair out!” De Niro’s honesty is refreshing, showing that even the most successful people face the same struggles as the rest of us.

A Journey Through Parenthood

De Niro’s parenting journey began with his first child, Raphael, born in 1976 with his ex-wife Diahnne Abbott. He also adopted Diahnne’s daughter, Drena, from a previous relationship. Fast forward to 1995, and De Niro welcomed twin sons Julian and Aaron through a surrogate with his girlfriend Toukie Smith. The actor’s life took another turn in 1997 when he married Grace Hightower, with whom he had two more children: Elliot in 1998 and Helen in 2011, the latter also born via surrogate.

    Challenges and Heartbreaks

Of course, life isn’t always easy, and De Niro has faced his fair share of challenges. In late 2018, he and Grace Hightower parted ways after 21 years together. At the time, sources revealed that financial disagreements played a role in their split. One insider told Life & Style that Grace was spending De Niro’s money “like there was an endless supply,” forcing the actor to take on roles just to cover expenses.
