Gaines Kids Following In Their Parents' Entrepreneurial Footsteps

How Chip And Joanna Gaines Raise Their 5 Kids

Let me tell you, folks, the saying "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" couldn't ring truer for the Gaines family. Chip and Joanna Gaines, the dynamic duo behind the Magnolia brand, have built an empire, and it seems like their five kids are eager to join the family business. Imagine this—Chip and Joanna recently sat down with People magazine to spill the beans about their children and how involved they already are in the family business.

Joanna Gaines, at 40 years old, gushed about her youngest, Crew, who's just 9 months old. She said, "He’s my little sidekick. He comes to work with me every single day and attends all my meetings." Joanna, ever the proud mom, joked with her husband, Chip, "This boy is going to be running the company by the time he's 5!" Can you picture that? A toddler CEO? Now, that's what I call ambition!

Now, aside from little Crew, Joanna and Chip, who's 44, have four more kiddos—Emmie Kay, 9, Ella Rose, 12, Duke, 10, and Drake, 14. According to the Fixer Upper stars, all their children are fully immersed in the family business at Magnolia headquarters in Waco, Texas. Joanna shared, "They love being here. I always try to involve them in what we're doing at work." And guess what? Each child has their own unique role to play!

She elaborated, "Each kid has their own thing. Drake loves the production side, so during the summer, he's up with the guys, and they're teaching him how to edit. Ella, on the other hand, is just like me. I think she'll follow in my footsteps and have her hand in a lot of things. Right now, she wants to cook, be a lead designer, and even run a donut truck." Meanwhile, Duke and Emmie are all about engaging with customers!

Joanna revealed that the kids are also involved in a fun little business venture of their own. "We printed labels for them, and once a week, they go out and sell," she shared with a laugh. "They're just like Chip: they don't take no for an answer!" But there’s more to their upbringing than just work—it seems there’s a reason the couple's kids have time for all of this good old-fashioned work: there’s no television at home, and iPad time is limited.

"Our rule for the iPad is that the kids can use it a certain amount of time every other day," Joanna explained to Southern Living. "It’s contingent on them doing their chores and homework. I try hard to make it not the thing they look forward to every day. I don’t want them focusing on that." Sounds like the Gaines family is setting their kids up for success with a strong work ethic and a balanced lifestyle.

Well, it seems like all this hard work and discipline will pay off, as these kids may very well be running the family business sooner than we think!
