Let’s take a trip down memory lane to 1998, when Julianne Moore and John Turturro delivered unforgettable performances in the Coen Brothers’ classic, The Big Lebowski. Surprisingly, despite being in the same film, they never shared a scene. Fast forward to today, and they’ve finally gotten the chance to work together in Gloria Bell, a film that explores the complexities of love and life through the eyes of two single parents navigating a passionate yet challenging relationship.
Julianne Moore Gushes About Her New On-Screen Partner
When we caught up with Julianne, now 58, she couldn’t stop raving about her on-screen partner, John Turturro, who is 62. “We’ve known each other for years socially, but we’ve never worked together before,” she told Closer Weekly in their latest issue, which is available on newsstands right now. “This was such an incredible experience for me. John is not only an extraordinary actor but also such a deep and fascinating person. He brings so much to the table.”
A Mutual Admiration Society
It turns out the admiration is mutual. John had nothing but kind words for Julianne, calling her “truly delightful” and emphasizing how easy it was to collaborate with her. “Julianne is just one of those people who makes everything flow smoothly,” John shared with Closer. “She’s a joy to work with.”

When it came to tackling some of the more intimate scenes in the film, Julianne and John were both committed to bringing authenticity to the screen. “Truth and honesty are so crucial in this movie,” Julianne explained. “We wanted the audience to feel the realness of the characters’ connection, and that meant going all in, even with the more vulnerable moments.”
John Turturro Steps Into the Spotlight as a Romantic Lead
For John, taking on the role of a romantic lead marked a departure from his usual character-driven performances. “I’ve always been the guy playing quirky supporting roles, but this was different,” John said, laughing. “But hey, I’ve got real-life experience in this area. I’ve been married to the talented Katherine Borowitz since 1985, so I know a thing or two about love.”

Reflecting on her three-plus decades in the industry, Julianne acknowledges the challenges of finding meaningful roles today. “It’s tough out there for everyone, regardless of age or gender,” she admitted during a 2016 interview with Marie Claire. “The film industry isn’t really focused on crafting great roles for actors. It’s more about making movies that will rake in the big bucks.”
