Former Dancing With the Stars pro Peta Murgatroyd, already a proud mom of one, recently opened up about her plans to grow her family with husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy. In a candid interview with Life & Style, the vibrant 33-year-old shared her excitement about adding another little bundle of joy to their brood. “We need to plan around our demanding work schedules, but I really don’t want to wait too long,” she revealed. “We’re thinking maybe within the next three to six months. Maks really wants a little girl this time!”
Peta and Maks, who just turned 38, are already the proud parents of their adorable two-year-old son, Shai. Described as the perfect blend of both his parents, Shai is bringing endless joy to their lives. “He’s such a cutie pie,” Peta gushed. “Every single day, I fall more in love with him. People often tell me he’s the ideal mix of me and Maks. He’s feisty like his dad, but then he’ll watch a cartoon, and if a character cries, he’ll start crying too. It’s so adorable—it’s just like me!”

Since welcoming baby Shai into their lives back in 2017, Peta has been navigating the beautiful yet challenging world of motherhood. Now, as they gear up to add another member to their family, she’s reflecting on how much this journey has changed her perspective. “Having a child really puts everything into perspective,” she shared. “It also brings back all these sweet memories from my own childhood. Like, I’ll be grocery shopping with Shai, and suddenly I’ll remember standing in the cheese aisle with my mom. It’s such a small moment, but it fills me with so much love and joy.”
The Realities of Being a Working Mom
Peta knows that being a mom to a toddler while maintaining her career isn’t always easy. “It’s definitely not a walk in the park,” admitted the soon-to-be actress, who will make her big screen debut later this month in the movie Faith, Hope & Love. “Being a working mom requires a lot of planning and organization. I have to map out my entire day before I even step out the door. It’s a balancing act, but it’s worth every moment.”
Maintaining Romance Amidst Parenthood
Despite the whirlwind of parenthood, Peta and Maks ensure they carve out time for themselves as a couple. “We make it a point to take little weekend getaways,” Peta shared with a smile. “For 48 hours, we can just be us again—no diapers, no schedules. It’s amazing how refreshing it is. You wake up and think, ‘Maybe I’ll spend two hours curling my hair today,’ or ‘Let’s order room service and relax.’ These little moments are what keep our relationship strong, even with a baby at home. They’re so much fun now!”
