Behind the Scenes with Ramin Setoodeh’s Tell-All Book
Thanks to the groundbreaking work of award-winning journalist Ramin Setoodeh, the world is getting a closer look at what goes on behind the scenes of the popular morning talk show, The View. In his explosive book, Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of ‘The View’, Setoodeh delves into the drama and complexities of one of television's most iconic programs. Following the book's release, former co-hosts like Sherri Shepherd have come forward to share their experiences. Shepherd, who graced the show from 2007 to 2014, recently opened up about her journey on the ABC morning show, revealing that it wasn't always a bed of roses.
Speaking candidly to Entertainment Tonight, the 51-year-old admitted, "I cried for three years straight because I had a very tough taskmaster, who I love to death. It’s Barbara Walters." Despite the challenges, Sherri acknowledges the profound impact Walters had on her career. "Barbara Walters was tough on the people that she loved, and she helped me find my voice," she expressed, highlighting the legendary producer's role in shaping her professional path.

Sherri Shepherd’s Gratitude and Growth
Though her time on The View wasn't all sunshine and roses, Sherri is deeply appreciative of the opportunities it provided. "I will forever be indebted to Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Jenny McCarthy for the time that I had on The View," she gushed. "What I have now is because of The View." This heartfelt acknowledgment underscores the lasting impact the show has had on her life and career.

Jenny McCarthy’s Perspective
Sherri isn't the only one who's spoken out after excerpts from Setoodeh's book hit the internet. In mid-March, Jenny McCarthy revealed that her tenure on The View was less than ideal. According to a report by Vulture, the TV personality described working with Barbara Walters, now 89, as a pretty "miserable" experience. Despite her short stint from 2013 to 2014, McCarthy found it challenging to connect with the show's creator.
Recalling her experience, Jenny drew a vivid comparison to the 1981 film Mommie Dearest, a tale of Joan Crawford’s tumultuous relationship with her adopted daughter, Christina Crawford. "You know the movie Mommie Dearest? I remember as a child watching that movie and going, ‘Holy cow!’" she shared. "I’ve never seen a woman yell like that before until I worked with Barbara Walters." That's quite the revelation!
