What's Next for 'Sex and the City' Fans?
Let me tell you, folks, the last few years have been filled with endless back-and-forth talk about whether Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall would reunite for a third feature film based on HBO's iconic series, 'Sex and the City.' But guess what? At this point, it might not even matter. Why? Because Candace Bushnell, the brilliant mind behind the original book that inspired the show, has written a new book titled Is There Still Sex in the City? And here's the kicker—this book is earmarked for a potential television series. That's right, folks, we could be getting a fresh take on the world of 'Sex and the City,' and this time, Candace herself will be writing the pilot script and serving as an executive producer.
What's the Book About?
Grove Atlantic, the publisher, is set to release the book on August 6, and they’ve provided a tantalizing description. The book dives into Bushnell’s sharp, witty, and sometimes heart-wrenching exploration of sex, dating, and friendship in New York City for women over 50. Set between Manhattan’s Upper East Side and a charming country enclave known as The Village, it examines love and life from every angle—marriage, kids, divorce, loss, and the immense pressure on women to stay youthful and have it all. It’s a deep dive into the complexities of modern life for women in their 50s and beyond.
What Candace Bushnell Has to Say
Candace herself weighed in on the subject in a statement, saying, “It didn’t used to be this way. Back in the day, being in your 50s meant the beginning of retirement—working less, indulging in hobbies, and easing into a more laid-back lifestyle. In short, people at retirement age weren’t expected to do much of anything besides getting older and, maybe, a little heavier. But things have changed dramatically. Today, a lot of women in their 50s and 60s are doing incredible things—starting new businesses, moving to different states, having casual encounters, and reinventing themselves. And I’m thrilled to capture this rich complexity of their lives, not just on the page, but also on the screen.”

Industry Reactions
Robyn Meisinger from Anonymous Content and Liza Chasin from 3dot Productions added, “Candace’s work is nothing short of fantastic, relatable, insightful, funny, and deeply honest. We’re thrilled to be collaborating with her to bring this portrayal of women in their 50s to life in a series.” And who could forget Nicole Clemens, President of Paramount Television, who chimed in saying, “The original Sex and the City book and series were groundbreaking for an entire generation of women, myself included. We’re thrilled to continue that conversation with an underrepresented perspective—women in their 50s—and to confirm that, yes, there is more sex in the city!”
What to Expect?
Don’t hold your breath for the original cast to return. This series will feature an entirely new set of characters. As for which network will pick it up, that’s still up in the air. But one thing’s for sure: Candace Bushnell is back, and she’s ready to bring her signature wit and insight to a new generation of viewers.
