Barbara Pierce Bush's Heartwarming Wedding To Craig Coyne: A Tribute To Family

Six months after the passing of the iconic Barbara Bush, her granddaughter, Barbara Pierce Bush, tied the knot with actor Craig Coyne in a private ceremony surrounded by their closest family and friends. The couple, who had only been engaged for a few months, decided to move forward with their wedding sooner rather than later for a heartfelt reason: they wanted Barbara's grandfather, George H.W. Bush, to be part of their special day.

A Rushed but Meaningful Union

After the loss of Barbara's grandmother, George H.W. Bush faced his own health challenges. With his annual move to Houston for the winter looming in mid-October, the couple knew time was of the essence. They wanted to ensure that George, who had already been through so much, could be there to celebrate their love. Barbara and Craig didn’t want to waste another moment—they wanted their wedding to be a celebration of family, love, and life.

“He’s doing great, but he’s 94 years old and he misses my grandmother dearly,” Barbara shared in an interview with People. “We just thought, let’s try to do this soon—a small wedding with just our family and my grandfather. We would have gotten married the next week if we could have. We just thought, let’s make it happen soon. We knew we wanted to get married—we’d already made that decision—so we didn’t need months of engagement. It was all about making sure he could be there for us.”

Barbara’s decision to move quickly was driven by the unexpected loss of her grandmother in April. Barbara never got the chance to introduce Craig to her beloved grandmother, and she didn’t want to take any chances with her grandfather. “That’s the one thing about waiting,” she reflected. “You can have this great career and this great life. But, of course, the older you get, the more you realize that you lose people that you love. We didn’t want to wait any longer.”

Barbara and Craig spent much of their time with George in Maine, where they eventually exchanged vows on October 7. “It was just the three of us—quiet and beautiful,” Barbara reminisced. “I would read to him, and while he napped, Craig and I would go on walks. Then we’d dress him up and take him out for martinis and oysters. It was such a special time for all of us.”

George H.W. Bush: The Guest of Honor

On the day of the wedding, George H.W. Bush was nothing short of thrilled to be there. “He was there with them all through dinner,” a guest at the wedding told People. “It was so heartwarming to see him celebrating their special day with them.” The love and connection between the couple and their family truly made the day unforgettable.
