Ellen Pompeo May Be Ready to Say Goodbye to Meredith Grey
After an incredible 13 years of portraying Meredith Grey on Grey's Anatomy, actress Ellen Pompeo might finally be preparing to step away from the role that turned her into a household name. In a heartfelt and candid interview, Ellen, now 48, shared her thoughts about possibly leaving the long-running medical drama after the show's sixteenth season in 2019.
"I'm not in a position to make any formal announcements about my future on the show right now, but I truly feel like we've explored most of the stories we can tell. It's time for me to shake things up. I'm definitely seeking a change," Ellen revealed to Entertainment Weekly in a recent conversation. Her words have fans of the series buzzing with curiosity and a tinge of nostalgia.

Creator Shonda Rhimes Speaks About the Show's Potential End
Creator Shonda Rhimes has also admitted that she's already envisioned the show's finale multiple times. "I've written the end of the show at least six different ways. But every time, we just keep going. I've stopped trying to predict it. Now, I truly have no idea," Shonda confessed to Entertainment Weekly. Her comments reflect the unpredictable journey that Grey's Anatomy has taken over the years, constantly evolving and surprising even its own creator.
Intriguingly, Shonda has previously disclosed that Grey's Anatomy will not continue once its star, Ellen Pompeo, decides to leave. "Ellen and I have a pact. I'll keep doing the show as long as she does. So the show will only exist as long as both of us are committed. If she decides to stop, then we're stopping. I don't know if we'll reach 600 episodes, but I want to keep it feeling fresh. As long as there are new stories to tell and as long as we're both excited about them, we're in. Wherever that takes us, we'll find out," she told E! News last year.
Ellen Pompeo's Thoughts on Saying Goodbye
This isn't the first time Ellen Pompeo has hinted at the possibility of Grey's Anatomy coming to an end. Back in May, she dropped a cryptic comment to Us Weekly, saying, "there is an end, and it's getting closer." Her words have sparked speculation among fans about the future of the beloved series.
She elaborated, "We're approaching that point. Shonda and I will make this decision together. One of the biggest lessons this show has taught me is that relationships evolve. They grow, they require effort. Like any marriage or friendship, you have to put in the work. You need to accept others' imperfections, accept your own, and strive to be a better person. But I truly believe that everything is worth the time and effort. And things do get better." Her reflections highlight the deep connection she's formed with both her character and the show itself.
