Let me tell you about an incredibly special moment. Just days after Meghan Markle's mom, Doria Ragland, was spotted flying from Los Angeles to London, the 62-year-old was by her daughter's side at a remarkable event. Doria joined Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, as the Duchess of Sussex hosted her very first charity event at Kensington Palace on September 20. Imagine the joy and support in that room as Doria watched her daughter shine.
Meghan’s Heartfelt Charity Project: The Story Behind ‘Together’
This event wasn’t just any gathering—it was a celebration of the launch of Meghan’s new charity cookbook, Together: Our Community Cookbook. For this inspiring project, the 37-year-old Duchess collaborated with a group of London women who endured the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire. Together, they created a cookbook filled with 50 delicious recipes, each one telling a story of resilience, hope, and community.

As Meghan said in a promotional video for the book, “Together is more than just a cookbook—it’s the story of a west London community who gathered together in a kitchen and discovered the healing power of sharing food.” Meghan, who has always been passionate about food and cooking as a way to strengthen communities, truly poured her heart into this project.
A Labor of Love: Meghan’s Words on ‘Together’
Not only does the cookbook feature 50 mouthwatering recipes, but it also includes a heartfelt foreword written by Meghan herself. In it, she beautifully describes the kitchen as “a place for women to laugh, grieve, cry, and cook together.” At the Kensington Palace event, Meghan opened up to the guests, expressing how much the Together project meant to her. She said it was a “tremendous labor of love” and shared how she felt immediately embraced by the women in the kitchen when she first moved to London.
“Your warmth and kindness, and also to be in this city and see in this one small room how multicultural it was—it’s truly remarkable,” Meghan continued. “I felt, on a personal level, so proud to live in a city that can have so much diversity. That there are 12 countries represented in this one small room is pretty outstanding.”
Support from Doria: A Source of Strength
Having her mom, Doria, by her side at the Together event must have meant the world to Meghan. Doria is known to be a source of strength for her daughter, and it’s clear that Meghan draws much inspiration from her. Meghan’s longtime friend and makeup artist, Daniel Martin, once told People, “Doria is classy, chic, and confident, but not unapproachable. I definitely feel Meghan gets a lot of that from her mother.”

Melding cultural identities under a shared roof, it creates a space to feel a sense of normalcy – in its simplest form, the universal need to connect, nurture, and commune through food, through crisis or joy – something we can all relate to.” The Duchess of Sussex is supporting a new charity cookbook, which celebrates the power of cooking to bring people together – visit the link in our bio or our IGTV channel to watch the full film #CookTogether
