Olivia Wilde's Kids Think Ellen DeGeneres Is Their Mom
On the Tuesday, September 18 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Olivia Wilde shared an absolutely hilarious story about her kids, Otis, 4, and Daisy, who’s just over a year old. Apparently, the little ones believe that Ellen DeGeneres is their biological mother! Now, how did this happen? Well, Olivia keeps a portrait of Ellen wearing a yellow bathing suit right outside her children’s bedrooms. “It’s the first thing that they see when they wake up,” Olivia explained with a laugh.
The Story Behind the Portrait
This quirky situation all started with a gift from Ellen herself. The 34-year-old actress revealed that the painting of Ellen was originally hanging above her bed. Over time, she moved it to the hallway so her kids could see it every day. Olivia even shared a nostalgic photo of the painting on Instagram last year to celebrate National Dog Day. The photo featured the painting alongside her and her late dog, Paco, lying in bed together.

Back in August, Olivia posted the picture of the portrait above her bed with the caption, “In honor of #NationalDogDay: The late great Paco, @TheEllenShow, and I, happily in bed together back in our youth. #AdoptDontShop.” When Ellen saw the photo, she jokingly thought Olivia had taken the gag gift way too seriously. “I gave it to you six years ago,” Ellen teased on her show. Olivia responded with a laugh, “It’s only appreciated in value to us.”
Ellen's Reaction to the Kids' Belief
Ellen naturally wanted to know what Olivia's kids thought about the painting. “Do they say, ‘Who is that lady?’” Ellen asked with curiosity. Olivia's response was pure gold. “Yeah, they say, ‘Oh, that’s our real mother,’” she joked, adding, “And I say, ‘Yes.’” The audience erupted in laughter, and it was clear that Olivia has a great sense of humor when it comes to parenting.

Life with Otis and Daisy
Olivia also opened up about her children's personalities. Her daughter Daisy, who will soon be turning two, is already showing signs of maturity. “She’s very grown up,” Olivia said proudly. “I’m already amazed by her.” As for her son Otis, he’s starting to develop his own unique tastes, particularly in music. Olivia joked that he’s developed a love for Ibiza-style techno music. “I don’t know how he discovered it, but it’s like spring-break, dance-party pop,” she said with a laugh. She half-jokingly blamed his friends and warned Ellen, “This is why you shouldn’t send them to school.”
