So many people are dealing with isolation, stress, and loss, and it’s taking a toll. Addiction is far more common than we’d like to admit.”

Reflecting on Her Own Journey
Ally herself sought help in rehab in 1989, an experience she says was both transformative and challenging. “It feels like a lifetime ago,” she admits. “I went to rehab for sleeping pills, which I started taking during a toxic relationship. That person was deeply involved in drugs, and it pulled me into a lifestyle that wasn’t healthy. Looking back, I’d tell my younger self to be more cautious about the people I let into my life. Rehab was a turning point—it gave me the space I needed to break free from that cycle.”
A Family That Supported Her Dreams (With Some Caution)
Growing up, Ally’s family had mixed feelings about her aspirations to become an actress. “My parents believed in my talent, but they were worried about me going to Hollywood,” she recalls. “It’s a tough industry, and they wanted to protect me. But I was determined. I got into USC, and my plan was to earn a BFA in drama while finding an agent and starting my career. And that’s exactly what happened.”

For Ally, her big break came with the sci-fi classic WarGames. “At the time, I had no idea it would become such a massive hit,” she says with a laugh. “I just knew it was an incredible project. He was so open to improvisation and gave us so much creative freedom. We spent three months on one set, and by the end, we felt like family. It was a truly special experience.”

James Roday, who starred in the show, is one of my favorites. He’s truly gifted.”

Ally is the proud mother of a 27-year-old son who has chosen a career far from the world of entertainment. “He’s a science teacher,” she beams. “It’s wonderful to see him thriving in a field he loves.”

At 59, Ally feels more content than ever. “I’m in a place where I feel truly grounded,” she reflects. “I love my son and am proud of the person he’s become. Life isn’t as intense as it used to be, and I appreciate the calm. As for love, I’m perfectly happy on my own. My house, my dog, my close friends—they’re all I need.”
When it comes to hobbies, Ally enjoys solitude. “I’m a homebody,” she admits. “I love being quiet, reading a book, or watching the news. It’s how I recharge. Whether I’m at home or in a hotel room, I create a space where I can relax and be myself.”
