Sam’s Journey to Becoming a Firefighter

It wasn’t just luck that landed Sam this incredible role. Back in March, NJ.com’s The Jersey Journal reported that the Bard College graduate took the civil service exam last year to pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter. According to insiders, the test results were released but haven’t been made public yet. Out of all the candidates, 60 top scorers will head to training, which lasts approximately five months. Training for Jersey City firefighters is expected to begin later this year, and Sam is ready to step into the fray.

What’s even more impressive is that Sam has been preparing for this moment for years. In 2014, he graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy, where he honed his skills and developed a deep passion for firefighting. Since then, he’s served as a volunteer member of the Monmouth County Fire Department in Colts Neck, New Jersey—where his parents currently reside. His commitment and dedication have not gone unnoticed. Monmouth County Fire Marshal Henry Stryker III once praised Sam, saying, “He’s very smart. He enjoyed what he was doing.”

It’s no surprise that Bruce and Patti are thrilled about Sam’s career choice. After all, they’ve always been vocal about the importance of giving back to the community. This brings back memories of the aftermath of 9/11, when Bruce released his powerful album, “The Rising,” in response to the tragic events. During an appearance on Nightline in June 2002, Bruce spoke with great admiration about the firefighters who risked everything to save lives that fateful day.

“One of the most powerful images of the [September] 11th, that I’d read in the paper, some of the people coming down were talking about the emergency workers who were ascending,” Bruce said at the time. “The idea of those guys going up the stairs, up the stairs, ascending, ascending. I mean you could be ascending a smoky staircase, you could be in the afterlife, moving on.”

Clearly, the Springsteen family understands the profound significance of serving others, and Sam’s decision to become a firefighter is a testament to that legacy.

    Wishing Sam All the Best

As Sam embarks on this new adventure, we can’t help but wish him all the luck and safety in the world. His journey is a reminder that following your dreams, no matter how challenging they may be, is always worth it. With the support of his incredible family and the skills he’s developed over the years, there’s no doubt that Sam will make a lasting impact in his community.
