When you think of Dee Wallace, the first thing that comes to mind might be her incredible work with child performers in movies like E.T., Cujo, and The New Lassie. But what many people don’t realize is that Dee was once a child performer herself. So, how did she get her start in the world of showbiz? Let’s dive into her remarkable journey.

“It all started when I was born!” Dee, now 70, revealed exclusively to Closer Weekly in the magazine’s latest issue, which you can find on newsstands right now. What’s Keeping Dee Wallace Busy These Days?

Dee is juggling a variety of projects, from heartwarming Lifetime Christmas movies to thrilling horror films. She’s starring in Jingle Belle and Every Other Holiday, two films she describes as “beautiful.” On the flip side, she’s also wrapped up filming 3 From Hell, a zombie movie. It’s a perfect mix of family-friendly content and edge-of-your-seat suspense—two sides of Dee that fans have come to love!

What Happened on the Set of E.T.?

Filming E.T. wasn’t all business—it was full of fun moments too. Dee recalls that one day, the entire crew dressed up for Halloween. Director Steven Spielberg walked onto set dressed exactly like the kids had dressed up E.T. in the movie—complete with the hat and pearls. The kids were absolutely thrilled and from that moment on, Spielberg had a special place in their hearts.

    Dee’s Favorite E.T. Memory

When asked about her favorite memory from E.T., Dee doesn’t hesitate. She says, “Absolutely, hands down, it was the connection with the kids.” The cast truly felt like a family, and Dee felt a deep sense of responsibility, especially toward young actors Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore. It was more than just a job—it was a bond that lasted beyond the set.

Henry Thomas as a Dad? Dee’s Thoughts

After playing Henry Thomas’s mom in E.T., Dee couldn’t help but feel proud watching him grow into the role of a dad in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House. Dee jokingly notes that now she’s even playing grandma roles! While time marches on, Dee says it’s a wonderful—and sometimes strange—experience. She admires how Henry continues to excel in his career and cherishes the lasting connection they share.

    Dee’s Adventures with Cujo

Despite the terrifying premise of Cujo, Dee shares that the dogs were incredibly well-trained and their tails were wagging throughout filming. However, there was one moment that gave her a bit of a scare. During a scene where Cujo was supposed to die on top of her, the dog had been sedated but not fully. Dee found herself bench-pressing a 140-pound St. Bernard, all while it was growling! It’s safe to say Dee’s adrenaline kicked in that day.

    Dee’s Showbiz Adventures

Dee shares another wild experience from her time on Cujo. The production team reassured her that she couldn’t break the car window during a scene, but as it turned out, she did! This just goes to show the incredible power of an actor’s adrenaline in high-stakes situations.
