On January 31, 2023, Tristan finally arrived, and the couple shared the exciting news on Instagram. But at the time, they kept his name and face private, giving fans a chance to respect their privacy during this special time.
“Our baby boy is here,” the Flipping El Moussas stars wrote on Instagram. “Mama and baby are happy, healthy, tired, but doing well. Our hearts are so full of happiness.”

Two weeks after Tristan's birth, the couple announced his name—Tristan Jay El Moussa. Heather shared on Instagram that Tarek was originally supposed to be named Tristan, and her father’s middle name is also Jay. It’s like everything came full circle, isn’t it?
Heather also opened up about the frightening experience she had during Tristan’s birth. “We were at my final doctor appointment when our doctor rushed us to the hospital because Tristan’s movements had slowed down,” she wrote. “During labor, Tristan’s heart rate was dropping dangerously low every time I pushed, and it stayed low. It was absolutely terrifying.”
Thankfully, Tristan came into the world healthy and beautiful, and Heather described the experience as surreal. “I was in a state of shock, emotional, and completely drained—but so in love already,” she said. It’s moments like these that remind us how precious life truly is.
The IVF Journey: A Twist of Fate
Tarek and Heather were completely surprised by their pregnancy because they were in the middle of an IVF cycle. Heather shared with People that they had embryos frozen and a clear plan in place. “We just weren’t expecting this. We had just gone through IVF. We had embryos on ice. We had a plan,” she said. “But sometimes life throws you a curveball, and in the best possible way. I’m so excited that it happened like this.”
Heather later discussed this unexpected turn of events with Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show in May 2023, calling it “a dream come true.” It’s a reminder that sometimes the best things in life happen when you least expect them.
Will There Be More Additions to the Family?
With Tristan now over a year old, fans are curious if Tarek and Heather plan to expand their family further. During a September 2024 interview with E! News, Heather teased the idea, saying, “You know my answer, come on. We’d have to talk daddy into it.”

Tarek shares two children from his previous marriage to Christina Haack, daughter Taylor and son Brayden, who also appear on The Flip Off. Heather expressed how much she loves being a stepmom, but welcoming her own child was an entirely new and rewarding experience. “I love being a stepmom, but I met them later in life—Brayden was 3, Taylor was 8—and I never experienced the baby stage,” she said. “It’s better than I could have ever imagined.”
