These days, Mitzi’s schedule is packed with exciting projects. She’s set to join the prestigious Turner Classic Movies cruise, where she’ll entertain fans with stories from her illustrious career. Despite her initial fear of water and the haunting presence of Titanic on TV, Mitzi embraced the experience wholeheartedly. In August, she performed a stunning set of Cole Porter songs alongside the legendary Michael Feinstein. Beyond that, she’s busy working on an auction and finalizing her memoir, which is almost ready to meet the world. With so much going on, Mitzi is as busy as ever!

Her Special Bond with Ethel Merman

One of Mitzi’s most cherished friendships was with Ethel Merman, her co-star in There’s No Business Like Show Business. Their bond was unique and profound. “She needed me, and I needed her,” Mitzi recalls fondly. Ethel affectionately called Mitzi’s late husband, Jack Bean, “Yuncle,” while Mitzi called Ethel “Mom” and Ethel called Mitzi “Mitzela.” Together, they formed an unbreakable duo, often ditching everyone else on set to share private moments.

Marilyn Monroe and Ethel Merman: A Rocky Relationship

Not everyone got along as well as Mitzi and Ethel. Marilyn Monroe, another co-star in the film, faced some challenges with Ethel. Mitzi explains that Marilyn’s tardiness didn’t sit well with Ethel, who expected punctuality and professionalism. “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind, and you do not keep Ethel Merman waiting,” Mitzi says with a laugh. Marilyn, new to the world of seasoned professionals, often arrived late, which didn’t go unnoticed by Ethel.
