Laurel, Mississippi, might be a small town, but it’s got a big heart and some seriously talented folks who call it home! Erin and Ben Napier are doing incredible things for the historic area through their HGTV show, Home Town. With the help of their friends and colleagues, they’ve been revitalizing this charming Southern town one project at a time. Over the years, the cast has seen some changes, with a few familiar faces stepping away to focus on other opportunities.
Where Did ‘Mike the Floor Guy’ Go?
If you’ve been tuning into Home Town, you might have noticed that one beloved cast member, Mike Husers—better known as “Mike the Floor Guy”—hasn’t been around as much lately. Fans have been wondering what happened to him, and they’re not shy about asking Erin and Ben.
Back in March 2022, one viewer took to Twitter to voice their curiosity: “I’m still waiting for someone to tell me where ‘Mike the Floor Guy’ went on Home Town.” It’s a question many others have been asking, and Erin finally addressed it directly.

Erin Napier Explains Mike’s Absence
In January 2022, Erin took to Twitter to shed some light on Mike’s whereabouts. “Guys, I know y’all miss Mike. We do too! He’s on a leave of absence caring for a family member with a long-term illness,” she explained. But don’t worry—she reassured fans that the show is still in great hands. “We’re in good hands though with our new hardwood restoration experts Terry and Mike (!) You’re going to love them!”
It’s clear that Erin and Ben care deeply about their team, and they’ve made sure to keep fans updated on what’s going on behind the scenes. Even though Mike’s been absent, his legacy lives on through the incredible work being done by the new flooring experts.
A Heartwarming History with Mike
Erin has always been a staunch supporter of Mike since he joined the Home Town family. In September 2020, she organized a fundraiser to help Mike as he faced a serious health issue. As the author of The Lantern House, Erin rallied her fans to support her castmate during a tough time. Thanks to her efforts, they managed to raise over $19,000 for Mike.
At the time, Erin wrote a heartfelt message explaining the situation. “America’s favorite hardwood floor restoration expert, Mike Husers, has an impending surgery to fix a hip injury from years of crouching and sanding,” she shared. “Walking and working are becoming increasingly difficult, so let’s show Mike we love him and make his surgery cost and the eight-week recovery away from work (which will be harder for him to walk away from than the recovery itself) a little easier. Thanks far and wide to his many fans!”
What’s Next for Mike?
Since Erin’s update, Mike hasn’t returned to the show. While fans have left plenty of comments on his Facebook page expressing how much they miss him, Mike himself hasn’t commented publicly on whether or not he’ll return to TV. For now, it seems like he’s focusing on his family and personal life, which is completely understandable.
Meanwhile, Erin and Ben have continued working with flooring experts Terry and Mike on their latest projects. Season 7 of Home Town premiered in March 2023, just a few days before Ben underwent surgery to repair his rotator cuff. Despite the challenges, he’s had an amazing support system, including his family, friends, and both past and present cast members.
