At 72 years old, John Goodman revealed what he decided to take with him after filming the seventh and final season of the hit sitcom. During an interview with The Los Angeles Times on Wednesday, April 9, alongside his fellow cast members, John shared a quirky detail about his keepsake. “I took a garden gnome from the kitchen. It had no business being there anyway,” he joked. This little gnome, which was perhaps a bit out of place in the Conner household, now holds a special place in John’s heart as a reminder of his time on the show.
Sara Gilbert's Thoughtful Keepsake
Sara Gilbert, who portrays Dan's on-screen daughter Darlene Conner, also shared what she took from the set. Sara, now 50, gave some insight into the fate of the famous Conner home set. “The couch and afghan, along with the entire main kitchen and living room set, are in Carsey Werner’s storage,” she revealed. But Sara wasn’t leaving empty-handed. “I took a few of the plates that hang around the archway in the kitchen, and I took the house address — the individual numbers. I have to mount them and frame them,” she added, showing her thoughtful approach to preserving the memories.

Laurie Metcalf's Personal Touch
Laurie Metcalf, who plays Jackie Harris, the matriarch of the Conner family, also grabbed a piece of the set to keep. “I have two coffee mugs from the set,” Laurie shared. “I only have to glance at them now to remember all the times I’d make an entrance through the mud room, head straight to the coffee pot, and pour some into one of those mugs. I don’t think we could have gotten away with it with anybody else,” John said of their characters’ dynamic. “I think Dan was looking forward to playing the field a little bit, but Katey is so great. We took one idea and wove it throughout the six episodes in a way that would have been different in a longer season.”

Executive producer Dave Caplan agreed that the team managed to give the characters the endings they deserved in such a short amount of time. “I would say we had to be very efficient with our time,” he remarked. “These are very long arcs for these characters, so to bring them to a satisfying conclusion in six episodes was a challenge, but I think we all feel pretty good about pulling it off.”
The season 7 finale was taped last October, and ahead of the April 23 air date, ABC released the plot of the show’s final episode. “Jackie prepares for a series of physical tests in an effort to rejoin the police force; Darlene confronts the insecurities in her marriage with Ben; Dan’s deposition stirs up feelings, and final farewells are made in true Conner family fashion,” the official logline reads.
