Let’s talk about a dad who really loves spending quality time with his kids—both on-screen and off. Eugene Levy, the beloved star of Schitt’s Creek, adores being around his talented children, Dan Levy and Sarah Levy. This family has built an incredible career together, all while maintaining a strong bond with Eugene’s wife of over four decades, Deborah Divine.
Now, you might think Eugene’s always been the fun-loving guy we see on TV, cracking jokes and making us laugh. But guess what? Back in the day, he was actually pretty strict with his kids. In an interview with People, Eugene revealed that he wasn’t afraid to ground his kids if they acted up. Yep, this comedy legend had a firm hand when it came to raising his family.
“It was a pretty standard relationship,” Eugene explained in January 2019. “If you crossed the line, there was going to be some sort of punishment. That’s just how I was brought up, and that’s how I raised my kids.” So, while he may be a hilarious dad now, Eugene made sure his kids knew the importance of discipline growing up.

Meet Dan Levy: The Heart and Soul of Schitt’s Creek
Eugene’s first child, Dan Levy, was born on August 9, 1983, in Toronto, Canada. Dan quickly made a name for himself in the entertainment industry, starting as a co-host on MTV Live in Canada. He didn’t stop there, though! Dan went on to co-write, co-host, and co-produce The After Show, The Hills: The After Show, and The City: Live After Show, proving his versatility in the world of television.
Dan’s acting career began to take off in 2009 when he made his debut in Degrassi Goes Hollywood. From there, he appeared in several other projects, including Cyberstalker, Admission, Robot Bullies, and Modern Family. Of course, his biggest role came when he starred as David Rose in Schitt’s Creek, the critically acclaimed sitcom that ran from 2015 to 2020. Working alongside his dad, Eugene, as Johnny Rose, Dan became a household name and a fan favorite.
When Schitt’s Creek wrapped in April 2020, the Levy family had plenty to celebrate. The show won numerous awards, including several Emmys and a Golden Globe. Eugene couldn’t hide his pride during the Emmy Awards in September 2020, where he expressed how much joy it brought him to work alongside both of his children.
“As a dad, getting to work on camera for six years with both my kids, Daniel and Sarah… [is] such a joy,” Eugene said. “I love you both and could not be prouder.”
In December 2023, Dan took on a new challenge as a director with his film Good Grief. This deeply personal project was inspired by the loss of his grandmother during the pandemic. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dan opened up about the emotional journey that led to the film’s creation.
“I lost my grandmother toward the end of the pandemic, and I was in a very strange headspace,” Dan explained. “It was hard for me to feel the specificity of loss when all I was feeling was grief for so long. It was that conversation that really expedited the concept of the movie.”

And just when you thought the Levy family couldn’t get any closer, in August 2024, it was announced that Dan and Eugene would team up once again to host the 2024 Emmy Awards. In a statement, they joked about their humble beginnings winning Emmys in a quarantine tent and expressed their excitement to celebrate television’s finest in an actual theater.
