Let me tell you something about Sandra Bullock. If it were up to her, she’d have started her family a lot earlier. “I would have been pregnant or knocked up at 17,” the actress confessed to ET at the Bird Box premiere in NYC on December 17. “I wanted to be a mom at a very young age. So I kind of felt the drive and the desire to have kids early on.”

But life doesn’t always go according to plan, right? Sandra had one major roadblock in her path to early motherhood. “My mother knew that and she kept me under lock and key,” the 54-year-old explained with a laugh. Now, not only does she play the role of a mother in her latest hit movie Bird Box, but Sandra also embraces the role of mom in real life. And she’s absolutely crushing it!

Even though Sandra didn’t have kids when she was younger, she’s now the proud parent of two amazing children: Louis, 8, and Laila, 6, whom she adopted. In her latest thriller, Bird Box, Sandra plays the mother of two young children who spend most of the movie running from an unseen evil in a post-apocalyptic world under attack. It’s intense, but Sandra’s real-life family life couldn’t be further from that chaos.

Now, here’s the thing about Sandra: she makes even the scariest movies sound fun. While the premise of Bird Box might sound terrifying, she assured everyone that the set was an absolute blast. Sandra even shared that she brought her kids to the set, where they could play while she worked. Can you imagine? Your mom’s on set filming a thriller, and you’re out there playing tag and building LEGO castles. That’s what life’s all about, right?

“LEGOs was a big thing, [as well as] tag and catch,” Sandra reminisced with a smile. “I mean, when you get two little people, there are basically three things that they like to do, and all three of those were done on set. It was like a mini playground for them.”

    Family-Friendly Sets

Sandra couldn’t stop gushing about how much she loves being able to spend time with her kids while working. “How many people would love to be able to take their children to work and have that embraced?” the actress asked. “It’s so accepted and I feel like every set that I work on has sort of a familiar aspect to it [and] a safe feeling for family members. It’s a beautiful thing.”

And let’s not forget Sandra’s protective instincts. She admitted to KTLA 5 Morning News that she has “neurotic” tendencies when it comes to her kids. “I’m afraid and I want to make sure that I do everything in my power to protect these two beautiful children that I’ve been blessed to raise,” she said. Honestly, who could blame her? She’s doing an amazing job, and it shows in everything she does.
