Let’s be honest—fans of Good Bones were worried about the bond between Tad Starsiak and Austin Aynes after the show wrapped up. But here’s some great news: it seems like their friendship is alive and well. Recently, Tad posted a video on Instagram that showed him hanging out with Austin, and the internet couldn’t be happier. It’s like seeing two old friends picking up right where they left off.
On Tuesday, January 23, Tad, who’s 30, shared a thoughtful post on his Instagram page. In the video, he talked about some telltale signs of “burning out.” In one of the clips, Tad and Austin, 31, were seen sitting side by side at a table, working on their laptops. It was a simple moment, but it spoke volumes about their ongoing connection.
“These could be your signs that you’re burning out,” Tad wrote in the caption. “Hopefully this helps you become aware of them and you know when to stop and take a break to recover.” Tad isn’t just dishing out advice—he’s genuinely trying to help others recognize the importance of self-care, especially in a high-pressure world like construction and TV.

While many viewers appreciated Tad’s wisdom, others were overjoyed to catch a glimpse of Austin, who has been relatively quiet since Good Bones ended its run after season 8 in October 2023. Fans were thrilled to see that Austin is still part of Tad’s life and thriving in his new role.
What’s Next for Austin Aynes?
Austin no longer works for Tad’s sister, Mina Starsiak Hawk, and her company, Two Chicks and a Hammer. These days, he’s part of Tad’s Indianapolis-based construction and consulting company, The Hammer. This career move came about after a falling out between Mina and Tad. Around the same time, Mina decided to downsize her team, which led to some interesting changes.
“I wanted to try to find a soft landing space for as many people on my team as I could,” Mina explained during an episode of her “Mina AF” podcast in October 2023. “One of the things that I did because Tad does have his own company is [that] I reached out to him and said two of the people on the team, Austin being one of them, I’m not in a position where I can maintain a large team anymore. I would like to be able to go to them with an option when I go to them and say, ‘I can’t maintain you anymore.’ That worked. Tad said, ‘Yes, I have room on my team,’ and he actually took on Austin, who is an amazing employee as well as another one of my employees.”

Austin Reflects on the Good Bones Journey
Since the Good Bones series finale aired, Austin’s Instagram presence has been relatively low-key. However, he did take a moment to share some heartfelt words with fans ahead of the final episode. In his post, Austin expressed gratitude for the journey he’s been on and the people he’s met along the way.
“Thank you all for watching. It feels like a blur,” he wrote. “Y’all saw me go from fresh out of college to turning 31 in two weeks. I hope you all had fun along the way. Thanks to all the work friends I’ve made along the way, thank you to the production staff for all you did, thank you to @hgtv for putting us in people’s TV’s all these Tuesday nights.”
