Tom Selleck Looks Ahead: A New Chapter Post-'Blue Bloods'
After bidding farewell to 'Blue Bloods' following its 14-season run on CBS, Tom Selleck is ready to embark on a new journey. Fans of the veteran actor won’t have to wait long for his next big project. According to his IMDb page, Selleck has an exciting new endeavor in the works—an untitled Jesse Stone movie. The project is currently listed as "in development," signaling the return of one of his most beloved characters.
Untangling the Plot: What's Next for Jesse Stone?
While the plot remains under wraps, the description teases that this will be "the next installment of the Jesse Stone franchise." For those who have followed Tom’s career, Jesse Stone is no stranger. This iconic character, based on the Robert B. Parker novels, made his debut in "Jesse Stone: Stone Cold" back in 2005. Since then, Tom has brought Jesse to life in eight more films, with the most recent being "Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise" in 2015.
Tom Selleck's Vision for Jesse Stone's Future
At 80 years old, Tom Selleck has shown no signs of slowing down. During a December 2024 interview with Parade, he hinted at his desire to revisit the Jesse Stone franchise once 'Blue Bloods' concluded. He admitted, "I haven’t worked on it yet. It would be an interesting challenge because Jesse is older now. There’ve been quite a few years between shows." Despite the time gap, Tom remains confident that Jesse Stone can still captivate audiences. "That doesn’t mean he isn’t a viable character," he remarked. "Everywhere I go, one of the things I get asked is, 'When can I see another Jesse Stone?'"

No Interest in a 'Blue Bloods' Spinoff
When asked about the possibility of a spinoff centered around his 'Blue Bloods' character, Frank Reagan, Tom was candid. "I’m open to suggestions because I love Frank Reagan, but nobody’s really asked. I don’t see him retiring and going off somewhere," he confessed. Instead, Tom expressed a preference for returning to the Jesse Stone universe. "If he goes off to a small town, I’d rather do more Jesse Stone movies," he added.
Tom Selleck on Writing the Next Chapter
In October 2024, Tom spoke with TV Insider about potentially penning a script for another Jesse Stone movie. "It looks like now I might have to write [a script for another movie]. It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it," he said. Tom acknowledged the enduring appeal of Jesse Stone, noting, "Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later. But I need to regroup; I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing, I’m going to keep working."

Tom Selleck's Commitment to Jesse Stone
Tom's dedication to Jesse Stone is evident in his willingness to adapt the character for modern audiences. "If Blue Bloods doesn’t [get uncancelled], there is room for a Jesse Stone because I’ve written them, as you know," he told Parade in May 2024. "I love Jesse. And he’d be different. He’s older. It’s been a while since the last one. That’s a fun thing to deal with. Either way, I want to work. But we’re in the middle of Blue Bloods; I’m shooting right now."
What's Next for the Blue Bloods Universe?
After CBS aired the series finale of 'Blue Bloods' in December 2024, an expansion of the show was announced under the working title Boston Blue. This new series will star Donnie Wahlberg and is set in Boston. Although it's unclear if any of the original 'Blue Bloods' cast members will appear alongside Donnie, 55, in the new show, an insider revealed that Tom was interested in making an appearance.
"Tom’s been pretty vocal when it comes to his feelings about the network ending Blue Bloods," an insider told Closer in February. "He did not want to say goodbye to that role, so naturally he’s very open to coming back and doing cameos on Donnie’s show." The insider emphasized the strong bond between Tom and Donnie, forged over nearly 15 years of working together. "They are still very close, over the nearly 15 years they worked together they developed such a fantastic relationship," the insider added. "They’re genuine friends, in a lot of ways they grew to be like family, that’s how bonded they were."
