‘Blue Bloods’: The Dramatic Way Vanessa Ray Got the Part of Eddie Janko

Let’s talk about something that has fans of the long-running drama Blue Bloods buzzing. With the beloved police procedural set to wrap up after its 14th season, the idea of a spinoff has become the topic of the hour. Fans are on the edge of their seats, hoping for a continuation of the Reagan family saga. And who better to weigh in on this than Vanessa Ray, the actress who brought Edit “Eddie” Janko-Reagan to life? During a recent chat with TV Insider, Vanessa shared her thoughts on the possibility of continuing the story in a new format.

Vanessa Ray Opens Up About a Possible Blue Bloods Spinoff

On October 18, Vanessa Ray, who plays the ever-popular Eddie Janko-Reagan, was asked by TV Insider if she'd be open to starring in a potential spinoff of Blue Bloods. Now, let me tell you, Vanessa didn’t hold back. The 43-year-old actress made it crystal clear that she’s all in for anything that keeps her connected to the incredible cast and crew of the show. She said, “I would do anything with these people. So, yes, of course.”

Would Eddie Janko Be Part of the Spinoff?

Now here’s where things get interesting. When asked if Eddie Janko-Reagan would make sense as the lead in a spinoff, Vanessa admitted that it might not fit perfectly. But hey, if it means staying with the Blue Bloods family, she’s ready to adapt. “I don’t know what world it would make sense for Eddie to be in a spinoff at all,” she joked. “But if they need to put me in a wig and dye my eyebrows and I’ll play a different character just so I get to hang out with all of them more, then I’ll do it.”

  • Vanessa’s love for her character and the show shines through in every word. Eddie is more than just a cop; she’s a loyal friend and family member who gives her heart to those around her. As Vanessa explained, “She loves this family so much and she loves her job so much. And anyone that comes in her path becomes one of her people, I would say.”

Eddie's Journey in the Final Season

Vanessa also touched on Eddie’s “biggest challenges” in the final few episodes of the season. While she didn’t want to give away any spoilers, she did hint at the depth of Eddie’s emotions. “The challenges, I think — she loves this family so much and she loves her job so much. And anyone that comes in her path becomes one of her people, I would say.”

She went on to explain, “She is estranged from her family and all of those things. So when she falls for someone, she loves someone, she loves them really hard. And so I think this season you just see the commitment to those people in her life that she loves.”

Will and Vanessa Team Up for a Spinoff?

It’s not just Vanessa who’s ready to take the spinoff plunge. Back in February, after the season 14 premiere of Blue Bloods, Vanessa and her costar Will Estes expressed their enthusiasm for the idea. “We’ll do it. We’ll take it,” Vanessa told Nerds of Color at the time. And Will, always the team player, chimed in with, “We’ll do it. One season, two seasons? Let’s do it. Pitch it!”

Vanessa even suggested a fun twist: “Let’s pitch it! Let’s make it somewhere warm.” Sounds like she’d be game for a tropical twist on the Reagan family saga!

    What's Next for Blue Bloods?

CBS has announced that the series finale of Blue Bloods will air on December 13 at 10 p.m. on the network. As of now, there’s no official word on a spinoff, but that hasn’t dampened fans’ spirits. Cast member Abigail Hawk dropped a hint about a potential spinoff idea. “There was talk of a spin-off happening,” she told Hello! Magazine on October 23. “But if it did happen, so immediately after our series ends, it would have to be not involving the Reagan’s or the NYPD at all. It would have to be set in L.A. or we follow a different family.”

  • For those wondering if Blue Bloods might find a new home on another network, Abigail had some clarity. “I don’t think there’s a possibility of it going to another network – I know that there’s been a bit of chatter about that, but I don’t think that that’s a viable option given the talks that we’ve had with the cast and the producers and things like that,” she explained.
