You’ve probably been hearing a lot about Hoda Kotb’s newest bundle of joy, her adopted daughter Hope Catherine. But what’s been happening behind the scenes with Haley, her first child? Well, let me tell you, Haley couldn’t be more excited about her new baby sister! And that’s no small feat.
Now, when Hoda, 54, announced she was adopting another child, it came as quite the surprise to all of us. But guess what? This wasn’t something that just happened overnight. According to a close friend of the Today co-host who spoke exclusively to Closer Weekly, Hoda and Joel Schiffman have been preparing Haley for Hope’s arrival for a good two months now. “Haley’s been on playdates with other kids who already have siblings, so she’s been curious about having a brother or sister for a while,” the friend said. “When Hoda and Joel finally told her she’d be getting a sibling, she absolutely lit up at the idea!”

Adjusting to Life with a New Baby
Now, introducing a new child into the household can be a big change, but Haley, who’s just 2 years old, hasn’t skipped a beat. “Hoda laughs and says part of Haley’s excitement is that she’ll now have a little sister she can boss around,” the friend explained with a chuckle. “But seriously, Haley’s taken to the idea of having a sibling like a duck to water. They aren’t so far apart in age that they won’t be able to grow up as playmates, and that’s something Hoda is thrilled about.”
Of course, Hoda, being the thoughtful mom she is, made sure to have plenty of heart-to-heart talks with Haley before welcoming Hope home. “Hoda wanted to make absolutely sure that Haley understands just how special she is to them,” the friend said. “She wanted Haley to know that Hope is an addition to the family, not a replacement for her. That’s something that could easily be misunderstood if not handled carefully. Hoda’s made it crystal clear that Haley will continue to get all the love and attention she’s always had, and now she’ll also have a sister around to share it with.”

Hoda and Joel: A Family of Four?
Hoda and Joel now share two children together, and if Joel gets his way, they might just say “I do” soon. “To be honest, Joel’s a lot more enthusiastic about getting married than Hoda is,” another friend told Closer Weekly. “He sees marriage as the next logical step in their relationship. But Hoda? She thinks they can live happily ever after without tying the knot. At their ages, it’s not like they need a piece of paper to prove their love.”
