It’s the end of an era, folks. On the April 9 episode of The Talk, Sara Gilbert announced her departure as cohost of the CBS daytime show at the conclusion of the current ninth season. With tears in her eyes and a heavy heart, Sara revealed that her decision was driven by a packed schedule and a deep desire to spend more quality time with her family.
A Difficult Decision
During the emotional announcement, the 44-year-old actress and producer expressed how hard it was to make this choice. "This is hard to do. This is something that I have been struggling with for a while, going back and forth," Sara admitted, her voice trembling as the audience gasped in disbelief. "But I’ve decided that it’s time for me to leave the show at the end of this season." She went on to explain how much she loves being part of The Talk and how difficult this decision truly was. "I obviously love it here, and like I said, this was extremely tough," she confessed.

Rebalancing Life
Sara, who helped create The Talk back in 2010 and continues to serve as its executive producer, is gearing up for her return to The Conners now that ABC has greenlit a second season. In addition to starring in the Roseanne spinoff, she also serves as an executive producer. While juggling both projects was exhilarating and empowering, it eventually took its toll on her.

"If I’m being completely honest, my life was a little out of balance," the two-time Emmy nominee explained. "I wasn’t spending as much time with my three kids as I wanted, and I wasn’t finding enough time for myself either." She admitted that as she continues to develop new projects and explore acting opportunities, she feels overwhelmed by the demands of doing it all. "Looking at the next six months, I realized there just wasn’t enough time," Sara added.

Missing Life's Simple Moments
Sara shared that she hasn’t been able to enjoy the small, meaningful moments in life, like creating a baby book for her youngest child, Rhodes, whom she shares with her wife, Linda Perry, even though he’s already 4 years old. The TV icon also shares two other children—11-year-old daughter Sawyer and 14-year-old son Levi—with her ex, Allison Adler.
"It’s tough because this is a place I adore, a place that makes me incredibly happy," Sara said warmly. "I love the hosts, I love the crew, I love our staff, and I’m so grateful to our audience for letting me into your homes every day. It’s been such an honor." She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, saying, "Thank you so much."

Reactions from Her Co-Hosts
Sheryl Underwood, who has been with the show since season 2, was the first to react, calling Sara an "amazing woman" who sets a great example for others. Carrie Ann Inaba, who joined this season, and Eve, who came aboard last season, had to comfort Sharon Osbourne—the only remaining cohost who has been with Sara since the very beginning of The Talk.
"I have so much to say to Sara," Sharon, visibly emotional, managed to say. "This show has been on the air for nine years, and we’ve had different ladies at this table, but to me, this has been the best table." In the end, Sharon expressed her luck in working with her "fabulous" friend and neighbor.
A Heartfelt Message from Melissa Gilbert
Sara’s big sister, Melissa Gilbert, best known for her role in Little House on the Prairie, took to Twitter to share her thoughts. "I love my baby sister @THEsaragilbert so much. I’m so incredibly proud of her. She created an incredible show in @TheTalkCBS," Melissa tweeted. "I know that this might feel like an ending
