Time flies when you're raising kids, doesn't it? Legendary singer Rod Stewart recently opened up during an appearance on Ireland’s The Late Late Show, sharing heartfelt thoughts about his teenage son, Alastair. As any parent knows, watching your kids grow up can be bittersweet, and Rod is no exception. He admitted that while he acknowledges Alastair is maturing, he can't help but feel a sense of loss for the little boy he once knew.

“At first, it was all about Fortnite. Now he’s got his phone, and it’s all about the girls. I feel like I’ve lost a part of him in the past couple of years,” the 74-year-old singer confessed. “I guess it’s just part of growing up. He’s becoming a teenager, and it’s an awkward phase for him.” Rod went on to express his deep emotions, saying, “I miss him so much. I really miss the boy he used to be.”

Rod's Reflections on Parenthood

Rod, a father of eight children, including Alastair, shared some candid reflections during the interview. His family includes Sarah, 55, Kimberly, 39, Sean, 38, Ruby, 31, Renée, 26, Liam, 24, and Aiden, 8. In the conversation, Rod admitted that he sometimes forgets the age of his eldest daughter, Sarah, and expressed regret over not spending enough time with his kids during his early years as a parent. “Please don’t ask me how old the eldest one is,” Rod joked. “She’s definitely up there. Back in my teens, I had a bit of a wild streak... When Sean and Kimberly were growing up, I was constantly on tour. I was in debt to the IRS in the late '70s, so I had to keep traveling and performing, which meant I wasn’t around as much as I should have been.”

Despite the challenges of his busy career, Rod seems to have formed a particularly strong bond with his youngest son, Alastair. In fact, he once jokingly revealed that he’d love for Alastair to play him in a biopic. During an appearance on the British talk show This Morning, Rod shared, “I’d love to see a movie about my life. Alastair always says, ‘Dad, we’ve got to make one about you! Because I can play the younger you.’ Wouldn’t that be something? I’d love to collaborate on that!”

    Rod's Current Family Life

Currently married to Penny Lancaster, 48, Rod cherishes his life with their two sons, Alastair and seven-year-old Aiden. The couple has been together since 2007, though Rod has been married twice before, with his children coming from five different relationships. Despite his storied past, Rod remains focused on being present for his family now, hoping to make up for lost time with his older kids.

While it’s natural for kids to grow up and develop new interests, we can’t help but hope that Alastair finds a way to reconnect with his dad and make some new memories together. Parenthood is a journey, and Rod Stewart is proving that even legends can learn and grow along the way.
