Meet 'Gilligan's Island' Star Bob Denver's Wife Dreama | Closer Weekly

Let’s talk about Bob Denver, the beloved star of Gilligan’s Island, and his incredible love story with Dreama. After navigating through three divorces, Bob found his forever partner in Dreama Perry. The couple tied the knot in March 1979, and their love story lasted over 26 years until Bob’s passing in September 2005. Their relationship was nothing short of extraordinary, filled with laughter, love, and a deep bond that stood the test of time.

How Did Bob and Dreama Find Each Other?

Their love story began in an unlikely place—on the set of a stage production of Woody Allen’s Play It Again, Sam in Florida. Bob met Dreama there, and the rest is history. Dreama recalled her initial thoughts when she learned she’d be working with the iconic Gilligan. “I said, ‘Gilligan, really?’ Seriously, I’m going to do love scenes with Gilligan?” she joked. But as fate would have it, once they actually met, it was love at first sight. Dreama shared, “The minute we shook hands, each of us thought: ‘Ah, there you are!’” Their connection was immediate, and they never stopped appreciating what they had together.

Bob Denver: The Real-Life Romantic

While Bob was best known for playing the bumbling yet lovable Gilligan, those who knew him personally say he was quite different off-screen. Dreama described her husband as “very romantic, very attentive, and very sexy.” It’s a side of Bob that many fans didn’t get to see, but it made their marriage all the more special. Despite his fame, Bob always put his family first, and Dreama often spoke about how devoted he was to her and their children.

Family Life: Did They Have Children Together?

Before meeting Dreama, Bob already had three children from his previous marriages: Patrick and Megan Denver with his first wife, Maggie Ryan, and Emily Denver with his third wife, Carole Abrahams. But when Bob and Dreama married, they welcomed a son together in 1984—Colin, Bob’s fourth child. Dreama fondly remembers Bob as a devoted father who adored all his kids. She said, “Bob was a great dad who truly loved being a parent.”

Creating a loving blended family was important to both Bob and Dreama. They welcomed all of Bob’s children with open arms, making sure everyone felt cared for and included. However, their family faced a unique challenge when Colin was diagnosed with severe autism at just two years old. Dreama revealed, “What most people don’t know about Bob is that he spent the last 20 years of his life providing full-time care to our son.” It was a testament to Bob’s love and commitment to his family, as he largely stepped away from the spotlight to focus on Colin and Dreama.

    Bob Denver’s Passing

Tragically, Bob’s life was cut short in 2005. A lifelong smoker, Bob battled throat cancer and underwent surgery, followed by a bypass operation. Unfortunately, complications from these procedures, including pneumonia, ultimately claimed his life at the age of 70. Dreama spoke about how Bob’s love for his family never wavered, even in his final years. “He loved his son and me so much. We did everything together, and that made all the difference.”

    Dreama Denver’s Legacy

Dreama didn’t just share her life with Bob; she also carved out her own successful career. She’s an award-winning author who has written several books, including two memoirs about her marriage to Bob: Gilligan’s Dreams: The Other Side of the Island and Island to Icon: The Many Lives of Bob Denver. Her writing gives fans an intimate look into their relationship and Bob’s life beyond the screen.

Before marrying Bob, Dreama dabbled in acting, appearing in a few roles in the early 1970s. After marrying Bob, she joined him in several projects, including a Gilligan’s Island reunion movie and a TV pilot called “Scamps.” Together, they traveled across North America for Gilligan’s Island-related events, sharing their story with fans.

Eventually, Dreama retired from show business to focus on raising their son, Colin, in West Virginia. She founded The Denver Foundation, which supports special-needs children, and runs Little Buddy Radio, a non-profit radio station funded by the foundation. Her dedication to helping others continues to inspire many.
