Erin Napier Illness: 'Home Town' Star's Health History Revealed

Let’s talk about Erin Napier, the beloved HGTV star from Home Town. Over the years, Erin has faced some serious health scares that have tested her strength and resilience. From mysterious symptoms to major surgeries, she's managed to come out on top with grace and determination. But what exactly has Erin been through, and how has it impacted her life? In this story, we’ll dive deep into her journey and explore the challenges she’s faced with her health.

Dealing With a Perforated Appendix: Erin Napier's Unexpected Struggle

Now, here’s something you might not know about Erin. Back in 2014, she was dealing with a health issue that left her doctors baffled. Most people know when their appendix bursts because it’s incredibly painful, but Erin’s experience was different. She endured debilitating symptoms that would sideline her for days at a time, and no one could figure out why.

As Erin recounted in a 2018 interview with People, “In the beginning, it would be 24 hours of terrible stomach pain and a low-grade fever, and then it would disappear.” Over time, the episodes grew longer—two days, then three. Despite numerous CT scans and tests, the medical team couldn’t pinpoint the cause. It wasn’t until an exploratory surgery suggested by her OB/GYN that the truth came to light. Erin had been suffering from a perforated appendix, which had been bursting and healing itself over the years.

  • This condition left her with extensive scar tissue that bound her organs together, raising concerns about her ability to have children with her husband, Ben Napier. Erin explained, “The first time it happened, when I was 19, it just partially ruptured—not enough to kill me, but enough to make me sick.” Thankfully, doctors successfully removed her appendix, resolving her stomach pain issues. And even better? Her fertility remained unaffected, allowing Erin and Ben to welcome two beautiful daughters into their family.

Erin Napier's Battle With Throat Surgery: A Second Health Challenge

Unfortunately, Erin’s health challenges didn’t stop there. In May 2022, she shared on Instagram that she had been hospitalized for throat surgery. She posted a heartfelt caption alongside a photo of herself with a longtime family friend, saying, “Staying tonight in the hospital after a throat procedure, and feeling so cared for by an old friend… I’ve never been so happy to see him as I was tonight, expecting a bowl of chicken noodle soup but getting a needed visit with an old friend too.”

At the time, Erin didn’t disclose the exact reason for the surgery. It wasn’t until nearly a year later, in January 2023, that she revealed why she underwent the procedure. On X (formerly Twitter), she wrote, “I was hospitalized with an abscessed tonsil during this block, so this episode and several others are about to have me with a weird voice and super puffy faced from IV steroids.”

The Impact on Erin Napier's Mental Health: Fear and Resilience

Both Erin and her husband, Ben Napier, have faced numerous health scares over the years. These experiences have understandably left a mark on Erin’s mental health. In a 2012 blog post, she opened up about her fear of illness and how it affects her daily life.

“I spend an inordinate amount of time avoiding illness. I scan Facebook every morning, looking for who’s sick so I can steer clear of them for the next 10 days,” Erin wrote. “It’s really a mental issue, my fear of getting sick. I’m not talking about a common cold, but the flu or a stomach virus. We’ve been together for eight years, and neither of us has ever had the flu during that time. This might sound ridiculous—there are people out there dealing with far worse ailments and diseases—but it’s truly terrifying to me.”

Despite these fears, Erin continues to face life head-on, proving that even when life throws curveballs, resilience and positivity can carry you through. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that we’re all stronger than we think.
