Motherhood has always been the heartbeat of chef Antonia Lofaso’s life. You might know her from Top Chef, but her real masterpiece is her daughter, Xea Myers. Xea, born to Antonia and the late rapper Heavy D (whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers), has become a central figure in Antonia’s world. Antonia Lofaso's Journey to Motherhood and Fame
Back in 2000, when Antonia welcomed Xea into the world, she was fresh out of the French Culinary Institute, ready to take on the culinary world. At the time, balancing motherhood and a budding career as a chef wasn’t easy, but Antonia managed to do it with grace. By 2008, she was competing on Top Chef, Season 8, and during that time, she opened up about the joys and challenges of raising her daughter. Tragically, Heavy D passed away in November 2011 at the age of 44 due to a pulmonary embolism. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things anyone can go through, but Antonia and Xea have found unique ways to honor his memory and cope with their grief. “We moved and all that kind of stuff … we found a lot in going out to eat together. That’s kind of like our thing,” Antonia revealed to Mashed in February 2023. She added, “So, she knows how to cook. She knows how to cook well. But when we eat at home at our house, it’s like very clean eating and very sort of like not a lot of junk food in the house unless we’re having a dinner party or something like that. So, our stuff is like we’re going to go out to eat. And so, that’s always been our thing.”

Xea Myers: Following in Her Mother's Footsteps
Xea Myers isn’t just a reflection of her mother’s culinary talents; she’s carving out her own path in the world of cooking. She’s appeared on episodes of Guy’s Grocery Games alongside her mom, showcasing her skills and proving that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Beyond her love for cooking, Xea shares her mom’s passion for fitness. The two often work out together, creating an unbreakable bond that goes beyond just being mother and daughter.
“My mom is, hands down, the strongest and most hardworking person that I have ever come across,” Xea shared with Harry & David in April 2021. “You just have to know us to understand the energy that we have and the relationship that we share. It’s very special, for sure.”

Xea often takes to Instagram to pay tribute to her father, sharing sweet memories and heartfelt messages. On Father’s Day in 2020, she captioned a photo of Heavy D, saying, “I miss your laugh. I miss your smile. I miss everything about you. This photo makes me so happy because it embodies everything GOOD about you. I wish I could talk to you every day about music and my life. I love you Papa, happy Father’s Day.” It’s clear that Xea cherishes her father’s memory and keeps his legacy alive through her words and actions.
