Brenda Vaccaro Opens Up About Her Lifelong Friendship with Barbra Streisand
Let me tell you something about Barbra Streisand. To the world, she’s this massive Hollywood icon, a diva in every sense of the word. But to Brenda Vaccaro, she’s just Barbra—her friend, her confidant, and someone she’s known for decades. Recently, Brenda spoke to Closer Weekly about their incredible bond at the opening night of Betrayal in New York City on September 5. And let me tell you, it was heartwarming.
Brenda, who’s 79 years old and a legend in her own right, couldn’t help but gush about her pal Barbra, who’s 77. “She’s my friend. We grew up together,” she said with a smile. “She was in I Can Get It For You Wholesale, and I was in Cactus Flower. We were across the street from each other on Broadway, and she’s been one of my best friends ever since.” Now, that’s a friendship story for the ages, right? And what makes it even more special is how they connected so effortlessly because of their similar personalities. “I love her. I never have any trouble with her because I’m a straight shooter, just like she is. We just say it like it is. She’s honest, and so am I,” Brenda added.

Barbra Streisand: The Perfectionist with a Purpose
Now, you might think that someone like Barbra would be difficult to get along with, but Brenda insists that’s not the case at all. “Every great artist is specific,” she explained. “She’s not demanding, she’s just clear about what she wants. Barbra knows exactly what she’s doing, and that’s what makes her so incredible.” It’s not about being difficult; it’s about being precise and having a vision. “She’s specific, and that means she thinks things through. She’s a great artist because you can’t be one unless you think in details, specifics. What do you want to say? Who are you? Is that color right?” Brenda elaborated. “I think she’s a great artist, and that’s why people who aren’t great artists sometimes talk badly about those who are.”
