He took whatever came along with a check attached, instead of waiting a year or two for that perfect script. But that’s just my take."

Brian’s Journey to Hollywood
Interestingly, Brian never set out to be an actor. In a 1966 interview with the Press and Sun-Bulletin, he revealed that both his parents were actors, but he had no intention of following in their footsteps. His dream was to have a career at sea, and he even wanted to attend the Merchant Marine Academy to launch it. But there was one big roadblock: algebra. "You can’t become a ship’s officer without acing a few math courses, and I just couldn’t get past algebra," Brian admitted. "No matter how many times I tried, it was always a big fat zero. So, goodbye Navy career. Algebra made me a star, I guess."
