Joanna Opens Up About Crew
Joanna has always been open about the joys of motherhood, and when it comes to her youngest, Crew, her words are nothing short of heartfelt. In a past interview on Today, she described him as “a gift.” She went on to explain how Crew has brought a newfound sense of calm and focus to their busy lives. “We were talking the other day, and we realized how he’s actually slowed down time for us,” Joanna shared with a warm smile. It’s clear that Crew’s presence has added a special kind of magic to their home.
A Family of Five (Plus One)
With five children under their roof, Joanna and Chip are no strangers to the chaos and joy that come with raising a big family. Alongside Crew, they also have their eldest children—Drake, Ella, Duke, and Emmie Kay. Joanna often updates fans on her blog, Magnolia, where she shares snippets of life as a mom. “This little boy is so full of life, so curious, and he keeps us on our toes,” Joanna wrote in a post on her website. She added, “It’s been incredible watching him interact with his siblings. The addition of Crew to our family has truly been the greatest gift.”

Chip’s Thoughts on Expanding the Family
Even though they’ve already got five kids, Chip can’t help but dream about adding more to their brood. During an appearance on Today in October 2019, he joked, “I could totally see Crew having a little sibling. I mean, I love this woman!” Joanna chimed in, teasingly warning fans that this might become a recurring headline. “By the time I’m 50, Chip will probably want more kids,” she laughed. “To him, kids are like businesses—there’s never too many!”
If the couple decides to expand their family again, one thing’s for sure: Crew will make an incredible older brother. His kind and playful nature would surely bring even more light to the Gaines household.
Crew Stealing Hearts
Crew’s charm extends far beyond the walls of his home. In April 2022, he joined his dad for the Silo District Marathon, a charity event supporting cancer research. Dressed in the cutest little running gear—complete with a sweatband and tiny Adidas running shoes—Crew stole the show. Chip couldn’t resist capturing the moment, captioning a video of the two running side by side with, “My baby is better than your baby!”
Just a month earlier, Joanna posted a sweet video of Crew in the greenhouse, tending to the plants. Wearing adorable rain boots, the little one took the time to say goodnight to each plant before heading inside. Joanna’s caption perfectly captured the moment: “Before the sun sets, he tells his little plants goodnight and to not let the (bed) bugs bite!” It’s moments like these that remind us of the simple joys of childhood—and the Gaines family knows how to cherish them.
