Meghan Markle's Baby Shower: A Royal Controversy
Let’s talk about Meghan Markle, shall we? The former actress turned royal has always been one to shake things up. And now, after throwing a lavish baby shower in New York City back in February, it seems the royal family has taken notice—and not in a good way. Reports suggest that Meghan was informed that such extravagant events aren’t exactly the royal way of doing things.
Here’s the scoop: “Meghan is still grappling with the press in London,” a source revealed to Us Weekly. “She was made aware that Kensington Palace and the royal family don’t typically go for big, flashy baby showers like the one she had in NYC.” Now, don’t get me wrong, Meghan didn’t receive an official scolding, but she was gently reminded that her actions didn’t align with tradition. Tough love, right?

The Price Tag of Meghan's Baby Bash
Now, let’s break down the numbers. The baby shower in question reportedly racked up a bill close to $200,000. That’s right, folks, a cool two hundred grand. And who was in attendance? A-list celebrities like Serena Williams, Amal Clooney, and even her Suits co-star, Abigail Spencer. The group stayed at the luxurious $75,000-a-night suite at Manhattan’s The Mark Hotel. No expense was spared, and the media had a field day with it.

But here’s the kicker: baby showers are not a common practice in the U.K. Dickie Arbiter, Queen Elizabeth’s former press spokesperson, chimed in on the matter. “Baby showers are very much an American tradition,” he explained. “We don’t typically do them here in the U.K. It was a bit over the top in terms of expense and the way she went about it.” And it seems Prince William might share similar sentiments.

Prince William's Reaction
Paul Burrell, Princess Diana’s former butler, weighed in on the matter, suggesting that Prince William might not be thrilled with Meghan’s choices. “I think Prince William will be angered by all of Meghan’s lavish extravagance this week and the fact her baby shower looked so ‘celebrity’ rather than ‘royal,’” he wrote in The Sun. “He has spent years working with the press to give them what they want but also gets what he wants in return—privacy. Meghan is doing exactly what he doesn’t—courting attention all for her and her baby.”
He added, “I think William, as well as Kate Middleton, will be totally bewildered by why Meghan is doing all this, as there’s no excuse for over-indulgence or excess and that’s what it seems to me.”
What's Next for Meghan?
Despite the backlash, Meghan is reportedly planning another baby shower, this time in London. According to a source, “Doria is coming to a baby shower here. It will be a small gathering of five or six people.” So, it seems Meghan is ready to embrace a more intimate and traditional approach for her second celebration.
One thing’s for sure—we’re definitely looking forward to this next event. Perhaps it will be a little less flashy and a lot more in line with royal traditions.
